Frame: Featured Artist

Welcome to a new series, Frame, which will feature Collegiate students working in any visual medium. Frame is one of those beautifully flexible words; it can be a noun, adjective, or verb. It means the area visible in an image or a structure composed of parts fitted together, something that gives shape. We’re interested in the choices that an artist makes about what’s inside the frame and what’s left outside. And we think it’s amazing that frame can refer to a bicycle or a human body or a beehive.

The first artist in our new series is:

 Allison Grainer

Allison traveled to Yosemite National Park in California and took these beautiful pictures. Of her images, she says, “I wanted to show a different part of Yosemite that people don’t normally notice. These pictures speak for themselves.”

We think these photographs ask us to turn our attention from the glorious long views of the natural world and examine the small beauties of texture and pattern that nature provides, if you have the patience to look.

Thank you, Allison, for these awesome images.
